Filling up ... listener Carla Howden of Kaleen withMix 106.3's Biggzy, aka Carla Bignasca.
Not everything about the 1980s was worth remembering but it seems more than a few Canberrans love to revisit petrol prices of three decades ago.
A long line of traffic snaked into the Caltex Starmart Kaleen this morning to fill up on unleaded petrol going for the 1982 price of 59 cents per litre.
It was all thanks to a stunt by radio station MIX 106.3, whose breakfast team Rod and Biggzy (aka Rod Cuddihy and Carla Bignasca) has been celebrating the decade of the 1980s over the last month. It all culminates tomorrow night with an exclusive concert for ticket winners to see 1980s legends 1927 at the Ainslie Football Club.
The going price for petrol at the service station yesterday was $1.37 - with Mix 106.3 picking up the difference.
More than 100 vehicles got through the service station in the allotted time between 8am and 9am. Some savvy listeners went in with bone-dry tanks.
"It really varied from 10 litres to 50 litres, the difference was about $1500 in total," a station spokesman said.
