Cast in The Bold and the Beautiful, as herself ... Ramona Bruland
Real life and soap operas are getting confused for Australians in Hollywood too.
If you think your life is a soap opera, spare a thought for Adelaide’s Ramona Bruland who has been cast in The Bold and the Beautiful, as herself.
Ramona whose career as a snow-bound TV host has taken her from Falls Creek to Aspen, Colorado has landed a recurring guest role in episodes screening on Ten starting this week.
Her story line is soap opera 101: “I’m involved in is this love triangle between Hope, Steffy and Liam and they make their way up to Aspen which is where I live and work. I’m trying to help Steffy through this while at the same time being manipulated by my boss. So I’m kind of a bad person puppet, but I’m really a good person.”
Bruland is unconcerned that her real life persona fits into the daytime soap universe, “I haven’t had to kiss anyone or kill anyone just yet,” but admits to participating in the style of performance made famous by Joey in Friends, “Smell the fart” acting.
“That’s kind of what you have to do,” she says.
“There’s a lot of really short scenes that you punch through and at the end you have to hold that emotion while they pull out, or push in, or whatever it is the camera ops are doing, so yeah there’s a lot of that going on.”
Bruland is just happy the show has helped her reconnect with people in Australia. “I get a huge response from childhood friends that I haven’t seen in years,” she says, “and they’ll say things like ‘I can’t believe you’ve sided with Steffy, she’s such a bitch, how can you support her you should be helping Hope?!”
