After a week-long wedding festival in the beautiful Sicilian coastal village of Taormina, Sun-Herald fashion editor Kate Waterhouse married her beau of five years, former footballer Luke Ricketson.
The happy couple, who met at Melbourne’s Celebrity Grand Prix, wed in an intimate ceremony at San Giuseppe church followed by a reception for 80 at the Grand Hotel Timeo.
"I can’t believe it's finally the wedding day!!" a glowing Waterhouse, who wore an elegant Vera Wang dress she had chosen on an excursion to New York with her parents Gai and Robbie Waterhouse late last year, told the Sydney Morning Herald only hours before the nuptials.
"I’m so excited, I feel like I’m the luckiest girl in the world to marry Luke. He is everything and more I would want in a man and to have family and friends share our special day in such a beautiful setting is a dream come true."
Speaking of the special place the beautiful seaside town holds for her and her family - brother Tom married his bride Hoda Vakili in the same place last year - Waterhouse shared: "We have been visiting Taormina as a family since I was a little girl and it is our favourite place in the he world. So to be married here will forever make it a special place in our hearts."
Waterhouse’s bridesmaids - including school friend Sally Salter, sister-in-law Hoda, Belinda Williams, Britt Hume and Andrea Heinrich - wore blush coloured Carla Zampatti creations. And Ricketson, who works for the Nine Network and is on the board of the Sydney Roosters, was tended to by Mark Napier, Tom Waterhouse, Lincoln Young, Damien Chapman, Simon Andersen.
The ceremony was officiated by family favourite and Rose Bay’s St Mary Magdalene Catholic Church priest, Father Tony Doherty, who flew over with the family for the event.
In the lead up to the wedding, guests including Anthony Bell, Kelly Landry and Model Co’s Shirley Barrett enjoyed an Amazing Race-style treasure hunt, snorkelling, boating expeditions and cliff jumping.
The couple were engaged during a candle-lit dinner in Florence last year with Ricketson saying at the time: "Kate's just amazing, she is everything to me."
The newlyweds will enjoy a honeymoon throughout Europe including France in the coming weeks.
