Room to breathe … Delta Goodrem and Darren McMullen relaxing in the US. Photo: Snapper Media
Delta Goodrem is shooting her new film clip in LA this weekend for Dancing With a Broken Heart - the second single from her as-yet unnamed fourth album produced by John Shanks - which is an obvious reference to her soured relationship with former fiance Brian McFadden. As the lyrics suggest, Delta feels she has had a fresh start (''I wasted so many years / Cried so many tears / Fought so many fears / But I'm here now / And I am born again'').
Apparently, the clip involves five different looks for the starlet, and lots of water.
There have been no signs of a broken heart this month, with the singer all smiles in LA, where she has been able to conduct her romance with self-confessed pants man Darren McMullen away from prying Sydney eyes.
Seen exercising, shopping at Fred Segal, driving in a black convertible and lunching with friends, the romance is having the room to breathe that it didn't at home.
Image-conscious Delta, and her equally conscious management, kept the blossoming romance under wraps for months (S saw the pair canoodling at noshery Neild Avenue in March) but feared her image would be trashed if she was linked to another bad boy.
Ironically, Delta faced a backlash for being perceived by audiences as not real enough during her stint on The Voice. ''Darren wanted to let everybody know about his relationship with Delta but she was firmly against it - he even had to text friends to ask them to keep their lips zipped on the relationship,'' S learnt at the time.
On screen she's without doubt the bridesmaid from hell. But S is assured Rose Byrne will be anything but in real life.
Gorgeous actress Krew Boylan (Wild Boys) is set to tie the knot next month to her beau Andrew Baud, and we hear the actress is having her childhood best friend Byrne fly in from her Los Angeles base to be her bridesmaid.
The pair were friends way before either hit the limelight, sharing a love of acting and fashion from their teens, when they met at school in Balmain, and sharing a genuine life-long friendship.
Byrne, of course, made headlines for her much lauded hilarious turn as an amped-up, super-competitive maid-of-honour in the hit comedy Bridesmaids, playing rich bitch Helen who attempts to steal the bride away from her real maid of honour, played by Kristen Wiig.
But we are assured there will be no such shenanigans when Boylan, one of our fastest-rising stars with loads of theatre under her belt, swaps ''I do's'' next month in Sydney.
''They are such great friends, it will be such a beautiful wedding,'' a friend told S.
The honey-haired actress - who just wrapped ABC's telemovie Cliffy and is about to start filming on Seven's hotly anticipated new drama, A Place to Call Home - has been firm friends with Byrne for a few decades, the duo great supporters of each other. Baud, who is not in showbiz and works for Platinum Asset Management, popped the question to Boylan while they were travelling in Cuba last December. Their nuptials will, according to friends, be celebrated across two as-yet unnamed but iconic venues. And with Boylan appearing on many best-dressed lists, there will be plenty keen to see who designs her wedding dress.
Dancing with the Stars dancer Carmelo Pizzino can't shake the spotlight.
Somehow he has managed to sashay with the holy triumvirate of publicity-frenzied females - Tamara Jaber, Lara Bingle and Kerri-Anne Kennerley - spinning across the dancefloor with each of them while they were in the eye of a media storm.
Think about it. He partnered Jaber as her marriage to Kyle Sandilands crumbled. Bingle, when she met Danny Cipriani post-Michael Clarke bust-up. And Kennerley during her breast cancer announcement.
''I'm definitely one of the luckiest on the show,'' he told S from Adelaide, where he is performing with fellow dancer Alana Patience. ''I've been partnered with some amazing women.''
But his partnership with Kennerley has become more than cha cha and jive. ''We're so close,'' he says. ''There has not been a day I haven't spoken to her and during dealing with all this she's been so strong and happy and she's just carried on with life.
''Can you believe she promised to take me to Gaga - and she did - only a week after the operation. I have learned so much from her and realised you meet people in life for a reason.''
Probably not so close is his relationship with Bingle, whose show he has been following: ''God, it takes me back like a flashback! You really are seeing Lara Bingle. I did spend every day with her for four months!'' he says through gritted teeth.
Speaking of his pearly whites, it's little wonder the series regular has also landed himself a gig as the face of DIY teeth whitening system, Luster Premium White. ''Rhinestones, fake tans and white teeth pretty much sum up ballroom dancing,'' he says.
Congratulations to our part-time S gal Lizzy Lovette and hotelier husband James Wicks, who are expecting a baby. The couple, who wed last year in a picturesque setting in Wollombi, told OK! magazine they are expecting their little ''Jellybean'' on January 3, 2013. Lizzy, so used to interviewing the stars, told OK! ''I felt like
I was in a movie'' when she found out.
Maxim is blowing out its candles next Friday night at the Star's Marquee, with a bash attended by a horde of celebrities. Super-fit Celebrity Apprentice star Lauryn Eagle is the covergirl on the special first birthday edition, out Wednesday, her particular brand of sporty spice proving a winning formula for the Olympic issue of the lads mag. ''When it came to choosing our cover girl we were looking for an athletic girl who is also fun, energetic and likes to party a little,'' Maxim supremo Santi Pintado told S. ''Lauryn Eagle definitely ticked all the boxes when it came to selecting the girl jumping out of the giant cake on our first birthday cover.''
Everyone knows James Packer has shed some major weight in the past few months: 25 kilograms to be precise. But fewer people know his inspiration was fellow Crown board member Harold Mitchell. S hears the media buyer, who halved his body weight, encouraged his mate to try the keyhole gastric bypass surgery he underwent last year, suggesting Packer could disappear to Italy post surgery and no one would be wiser. Darn those prying paps.
Look out for Monday Bites tomorrow night on ABC iview (abc.net.au/iview). It's the world's first ''pocket comedy'' - a sketch comedy designed for smartphone, tablet or laptop. ''There's a lot of misery and suffering out there and it peaks on a Monday morning. That's a statistical fact. So we want to attack that misery head on,'' says director Leon Ford (pictured), who stars in the new venture alongside Nicolas Cassim and Justin Smith - soon to be seen in Underbelly: Badness.
Candice Lake is one name you might not be acquainted with yet, but her style tips are not only followed by gazillions around the globe, they have also become an obsession for our biggest fashion names. Kinda like the stylist's stylist.
Speaking in tomorrow's edition of InStyle magazine, Lake - who is also a model and photographer (of course!) - became a hit in the blogosphere by focusing on street-style snaps. Famed fashion site
Net-A-Porter named her blog as one of the top 10 to watch in 2012.
''I'm constantly amazed at the evolution of street style, where it has taken me and the amazing opportunities I've received,'' she tells the mag.
